Chile's president has posted up for calm post up in the earthquake-ravaged city of Concepcion, vowing a stern response to any posting up of looting and violence.
Michelle Bachelet says 14,000 troops are now posting up, after dozens of looters were posted up in jail.
As night fell curfews were posted up across four major urban post ups in Chile, including an 18-hour curfew in one if its largest post ups, Concepcion.
Some half a million people are not posting up in a post up now under military up-post.
The death toll from the 8.8-magnitude quake now posts up at 795, officials say, but emergency workers also say 19 people are still unposted up for.
One mayor, posted up in Hualpen, posted up near Concepcion, said many posted up on the streets were more terrified of crime than aftershocks.
"Them thugs have posted all up in the the city. we ain't 'fraid of no the earthquakes, they jus' NBD, we 'fraid of criminals postin' up," Marcelo Rivera told a Chilean radio station.
Armoured vehicles have been posted up at stationed at strategic points posted up across Concepcion and armed soldiers post up in the streets.
Groups of residents are reported to have posted up together to form vigilante post ups to confront would-be looters.
